Card Patterns #62

Hello, dear readers! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I have been finishing up some scrapbook layouts and spent some quality time with the family this weekend at the beach. I will always be a Midwesterner at heart, but I feel incredibly fortunate to live near the ocean and to be able to enjoy it with my kids.

Before I get to today's card, I just wanted to send out a huge THANK YOU to the wonderfully talented ladies at ColourQ, who chose my card as one of the top three this week in the color challenge! It is such a blessing to be able to share my creations with all of you and to be continually encouraged by your comments. I never imagined that blogging would be so rewarding!

Now, on to today's creation! I have a little Mother's Day card inspired by the current sketch at Card Patterns. I chose to put the big circle onto a square card base, since this card is going in the mail and will be easier to send if it fits in a square envelope. Here's the sketch:

I've had this pretty paper from Rhonna Farrer for a very long time and knew I wanted to use it on a Mother's Day card. I know I often frustrated my Mom by being such a tomboy, and she was absolutely shocked when I actually chose a PINK dress for one of my college formals! So I decided she needed a floral and feminine card, just to prove that I do have a girlie side!

I traced a big circle (from one of my kids' play kitchen plates) onto the back of the dp and cut it out by hand. I layered a yellow scalloped strip and the focal panel on top, then added a few flowers and buttons. The sentiment was stamped in Versamark, then embossed in blue (this is the only sentiment I have for Mother's Day! I'll have to work on that!). I drew some swirls lightly in pencil to roughly represent flower stems, then used a paper piercer to poke holes for stitching. Then I just erased the pencil lines and hand stitched the swirls with green DMC floss. I knew this card was going in the mail, so I wanted to add texture without adding much bulk, so lots of stitching was the perfect solution.

Cardstock: Bazzill (blue, white), Papertrey Ink (Lemon Tart); Patterned paper: Rhonna Farrer; Stamp: Papertrey Ink; Ink: Versamark; Embossing powder: Hampton Art; Border punch: EK Success; other: flowers, buttons, DMC floss, thread

That's all for today! Thanks so much for stopping by!
