CR84FN28 & Chevron Chic

I have had quilting on the brain lately, so this was bound to happen.  I recently mentioned that I am finally finishing a quilt that I started 4 or 5 years ago, and it has led to me spending way too much time on quilting and sewing blogs looking for inspiration.

Last night was one of those times, and I happened to notice a fabulous quilt on the blog banner of The Purl Bee that immediately made me think of two current challenges.  One is the color combo at CR84FN of red, yellow, and a neutral, and the other is the Chevron Chic challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

Doesn't that colorful banner just make you giddy?

To be completely honest, I'm not a big fan of chevron stripes and didn't think I would participate in this challenge, but I couldn't resist putting this idea on paper.  I pulled red and yellow patterned papers from Cosmo Cricket's Garden Variety mini deck, plus a yellow lattice paper from Making Memories that I found in my stash.

I cut strips from each of the papers and lined them up in a chevron pattern, then stitched them onto Rustic White cardstock.  The Pure Poppy card base is a little bigger than an A2 to accommodate the stripes, about 4 1/2 X 6 1/2.

With such a busy background, I kept the sentiment panel simple with a sentiment from PTI's Quilter's Sampler, scored lines, and a red button tied with floss.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Pure Poppy, Vintage Cream)
Patterned paper:  Cosmo Cricket (Garden Variety), Making Memories (Spring)
Stamp:  Papertrey Ink (Quilter's Sampler)
Ink:  Papertrey Ink (Dark Chocolate)
Tools:  Martha Stewart (scoring board)
Accessories:  Papertrey Ink (button), DMC floss, thread

This was almost as fun as actual quilting.  *smile*

Okay, I'm off to spend some time with my little guy.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Oh. My. Gosh. This is incredible. So innovative! I love modern takes on quiltmaking, and now to combine it with papercrafting? Genius! I was considering entering the chevron challenge, but I might have to think twice now, because this is going to take the cake for sure. SO awesome.

This is fabulous. I cannot imagine putting down all those little pieces of paper then carefully stitching in a straight line...but you have done it all beautifully!

I bow in your general direction for the patience you had in putting all those rectangles into a pattern and then sewing over them to boot! Fabulously done!! Great take on the insp. piece and use of the colours. Enjoy your time with your little guy - give him a snuggle for me! Such a precious age (though very busy!!) and they grow up sooo quickly! Thankful my 10 year old still likes to snuggle :)

Wonderful, stunning, inspired!! I love the way you've used papers to make the chevrons and then stitched them in too!! Looks brilliant. And the sentiment is so totally appropriate. Thanks for playing along with CR84FN this week!

oh man, tell me how you made your stitched lines so darn perfect? Now I'm embarrassed at my own paltry attempt to stitch some chevrons. You are astounding. If I had seen this before I might have pulled out my hair when I did my own...Yours are just so perfect!
