Pin-spired--Nautical stripes

Hi friends!  It's been a while since I made a card that wasn't for a DT assignment or challenge of some kind, so I decided to sit down for a few minutes this afternoon and make something just for me.  I recently Pinned this photo for inspiration and immediately sketched an idea for a card.

It's pretty obvious how I was inspired!  I wanted to replicate the broad red stripes, so I stamped them onto white cardstock using PTI's Faux Ribbon.  I tucked strips of navy cardstock under the panel at the top and bottom and pinked the edges, then added a stitched "seam".

The sentiment is from Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler, and I balanced it by adding three navy buttons threaded with red and white baker's twine in the top corner.

The subtle texture on the striped panel comes from PTI's Linen & Canvas impression plate.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Enchanted Evening, White)
Stamps:  Papertrey Ink (Faux Ribbon), Paper Smooches (Sentiment Sampler)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Real Red, Not Quite Navy)
Tools:  Papertrey Ink (Linen & Canvas impression plate), Fiskars (pinking shears)
Accessories:  Papertrey Ink (buttons), The Twinery (Maraschino baker's twine), thread

I've noticed a lot of designers posting cards that were inspired by photos on Pinterest.  I have a ton of pictures saved that I'd like to use as inspiration for cards, so maybe I'll make this a semi-regular feature.  What do you think?

I hope your weekend gets off to a great start!  I'll be back in the morning with a new Card Patterns sketch!

Papertrey Ink October Blog Hop

Hey folks!  I'm a little late to the party, but I made it!  Today is the monthly Papertrey Ink Blog Hop, and this time Nichole supplied us with another fun inspiration photo.

Aren't those fabric pumpkins beautiful?  I had a few false starts with this card, but I finally settled on replicating the striped pattern on the front panel of the largest pumpkin, the colors, and the leaves.

On a Rustic White cardstock panel, I adhered strips of Fine Linen and Orange Zest.  Then I stamped some faux zig-zag stitching between the stripes.  The whole panel is debossed with the Linen & Canvas IP.

The tag and sentiment are from 2009 Autumn Tags and the leaves were die cut and stamped using the Delightful Dahlia set.  It's hard to see it, but the Ripe Avocado card base is debossed with the Polka Dot IP, as well.

All supplies from Papertrey Ink unless noted
Cardstock:  Ripe Avocado, Orange Zest, Fine Linen, Dark Chocolate, Rustic White
Stamps:  2009 Autumn Tags, Delightful Dahlia, Patterned Borders (TPC Studio)
Ink:  Ripe Avocado, Chocolate Chip (Stampin' Up! ), Spiced Marmalade (Ranger)
Tools:  Dahlia leaf dies, Limitless Layers, Linen & Canvas IP, Polka Dot Basics IP, hole punch (Fiskars)
Accessories:  buttons, twine (Pebbles, Inc.)

Sorry to post and run, but I have a heap of grading to do!  I'll be back to see the rest of the entries soon. Have a great night, friends!

Papertrey Ink September Blog Hop

Hello friends!  It's time for another Papertrey Ink Blog Hop, and I'm happy to have found time to play.  The challenge this month is to be inspired by a photo of this fun and colorful striped floor:

I pulled out the colors Pure Poppy, Summer Sunrise, Smokey Shadow, and Hawaiian Shores from the stripes in the photo.  I cut strips of cardstock and debossed them with the Cane Print impression plate, then adhered them to a white panel.

I attached a strip of white twill across the bottom and stamped a sentiment above it, from Faux Ribbon.  Finally, I added a trio of Hibiscus Burst buttons threaded with black floss.

All supplies from Papertrey Ink unless noted
Cardstock:  White, Pure Poppy, Summer Sunrise, Smokey Shadow, Hawaiian Shores
Stamps:  Faux Ribbon
Ink:  Black (Inkadinkadoo)
Tools:  Cane Print impression plate
Accessories:  Hibiscus Burst buttons, twill ribbon (A.C. Moore), DMC floss

Thanks for stopping by today, and happy hopping!
