Color Inspiration Metallics

Hi there, friends!  How is your weekend going so far?  I've had a little bit of crafting time today, so I wanted to pop in and share my next entry into the Color Inspiration for Card Makers Week challenge in the Moxie Fab World.  This time it's the Metallics:

I don't know that I have ever used gold on a card before, so this was definitely outside of my comfort zone.  I found these gorgeous vellum butterflies by K & Company and knew they had to be the focal point.  I made a circle frame using two Nesties to cut out a ring from gold cardstock, then covered it with gold glitter.  I also stamped two borders and a journaling circle and heat embossed with gold powder.

Here's where I ran into trouble.  I decided to add a gold embossed sentiment at the bottom.  Only the embossing powder left an awful, dirty-looking shadow on my nice white cardstock.  Go ahead and look at it again...I'll wait.

See what I mean?!  Ugh!!  I dusted the cardstock with one of those little magic de-static-ing pillows beforehand and removed all of the stray specks of powder with a paintbrush, but none of that seemed to help.  I can only guess that I should have used a higher quality embossing powder, but if you have any experience with this and can offer your advice, I'd love to hear it!

But....the card sure does sparkle!

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (white), Bazzill (Pinkini), Recollections (gold)
Stamps:  Me & My Big Ideas (Copper Willow Stamp Kit), Papertrey Ink (Delightful Dahlia)
Ink:  Versamark
Tools:  Spellbinders (circle, scallop circle dies), ProvoCraft (embossing folder)
Accessories:  K & Company (vellum butterflies), Martha Stewart (gold glitter), Jo-Ann (gold embossing powder), ribbon, thread

Okay, back to the crafty table, while I still have a few quiet minutes to myself.  Thanks for stopping by and always leaving me such sweet comments.  You are appreciated more than you know!

Christina,
This card is lovely! I don't have any advice on the embossing, I am terrible at it. I really don't mind the shadow,I think at adds charm!

Wahoo....the embossing is fantastic! I love the gold but I haven't used it forever! Those butterflies were just the right embellie.....they enhance the elegance!

Great use of the gold, Christina. Love those butterflies too. Try ultra fine EP if you didn't on this one. Gives you a much crisper image. If it is ultra fine, don't know what to say other than I think I read it sometimes goes "stale"?

Oooo! Thanks for that close-up. The butterflies are just gorgeous. You know I was visiting a vintage blog the other day and they used a pink and gold theme...guess gold will be making a comeback!
