Practicing Creativity sketch challenge

Oh my, we're almost to the end of another week! Thankfully we're enjoying cooler temps today and there is a wonderful fall breeze. {sigh} I'm looking forward to more days like these.

I have two cards to share tonight for a special challenge over at the Practicing Creativity blog. Courtney and her talented design team just celebrated a new release, and each DT member provided a sketch to try. You only need to pick one to play, but I am working on a set of cards for a friend and decided to use these sketches as my inspiration. I'll share the first two today, and hopefully I will be able to post the other two tomorrow.

I don't have any Practicing Creativity stamps yet, but I just ordered one of the new sets, Fall Fest, so I'll be sure to share my thoughts (and creations) as soon as it arrives!

Here is Dana's sketch, which I used for my first card.

I picked up the Bissette stack from SEI specifically for making a set of cards because I love the patterns and colors (Aqua Mist, Spring Moss, and Dark Chocolate). Gorgeous, I tell you!

For this card, I layered a block of patterned paper on Spring Moss cardstock and placed it on a Dark Chocolate card base. The sentiment panel is white cardstock stamped first with text in aqua, then small medallions in green, then the sentiment in brown. I stitched a ruffled Aqua Mist ribbon behind the panel and added a punched border to the bottom.

Cardstock: Papertrey Ink (Dark Chocolate, Spring Moss, white)
Patterned paper: SEI (Bissette stack)
Stamps: Papertrey Ink (Background Basics: Text Style), WPlus9 Designs (Mehndi Medallions), unknown sentiment
Ink: Papertrey Ink (Dark Chocolate), Clearsnap (Lettuce, Seaglass), Ranger (Antique Linen)
Tools: Martha Stewart crafts (border punch), EK Success (corner rounder)
Accessories: Papertrey Ink (ribbon), Michaels (pearls), thread

The second card uses another patterned paper from the Bissette stack and the same color combo.

Here is the sketch from Courtney:

This time I used Aqua Mist cardstock de-bossed with the Linen & Canvas impression plate. The circle is white cardstock stamped with the text in green, a large medallion in aqua, and the sentiment in brown. I gave the edges a bit of Antique Linen distress ink, as well.

Cardstock: Papertrey Ink (Dark Chocolate, Aqua Mist, white)
Patterned paper: SEI (Bissette stack)
Stamps: Papertrey Ink (Background Basics: Text Style), WPlus9 Designs (Mehndi Medallions), Fiskars (All Year Greetings)
Ink: Papertrey Ink (Dark Chocolate), Clearsnap (Lettuce, Seaglass), Ranger (Antique Linen)
Tools: Spellbinders (circle, scallop circle dies), Papertrey Ink (Linen & Canvas impression plate), EK Success (corner rounder)
Accessories: Michaels (ribbon, pearls), thread

I can't wait to play more with these papers and sketches! I always find it easier to make a set of cards if I have a stack of coordinating papers in patterns that I really like. That way all I have to do is add some cardstock, a bit of ribbon, and a sentiment and let the patterned paper take center stage.

Thanks so much for stopping by tonight! Have a happy Friday!
