Curtain Call Act 47 & Waltzingmouse Sketch #14

Hey everyone! It's time for another Curtain Call Color Challenge! This week Stacey has picked an earthy combo that I really love. I paired up this week's colors with the newest Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. It also qualifies for the Paper Crafts gallery challenge to use text.

This card is fairly simple but has some subtle details and a few new-to-me techniques that I want to share. First is the text de-bossing on the Artichoke cardstock. I used PTI's Book Plate impression plate, but I wanted to try the popular letterpress look that I've been seeing, so I inked it up first with Dark Chocolate ink. The effect is very subtle, I think because of the small size of the impressed letters and because the cardstock is a darker color, but there is a difference, and I've tried to show that below in these two samples with ink (on the right) and without ink (on the left).

Another fun technique I tried on this card was to stamp the leaf image onto white cardstock and cut it out, leaving a negative space behind which I put Artichoke cardstock stamped with PTI's Text Style in Versamark. I LOVE how this turned out, but it's hard to see just how pretty it looks in these photos.

The last technique I want to share is not at all obvious, but it's something I learned from Debbie Olsen's blog. I don't have any rectangle dies, so I used my square Nesties to create this rectangle! I took the largest square, which is 3 inches across, and cut out a square of white cardstock. Then I repositioned the die on the same piece of cardstock so that it would cut a rectangle 2 inches wide. The result: a perfectly cut and embossed 2X3 rectangle.
