Some thoughts on Boston and a card...

Hi there.  Just popping in to share a card I made after a long break from my craft room.  But first, a few words about recent events in Boston.

Last week's tragic events at the Boston Marathon were so horrific and unthinkable that I spent most of the week in a kind of fog, as I'm sure many others did.  I live about 30 miles north of the city, so while my family was not directly impacted by the bombing or the subsequent search for the suspects, the entire thing has been profoundly unsettling.

It seems as if everyone I meet has a personal connection to this tragedy, so while I'm thankful that my immediate friends and neighbors who were in Boston last week returned home safely, I grieve for those who lost lives and limbs to a senseless act of violence.

Making cards can seem like such a trivial activity at times like this, but creating something with your own hands can be incredibly soothing.  I may not be able to control the events going on in the world around me, but I can take a few minutes to put some stamps to paper and try to make something beautiful.  That's what drew me back to my craft room this week.

For this card, my only goal was to play with Lil' Inker Designs' Darling Diamonds stamp set and the coordinating Circles & Diamonds Stitched Pattern die, which has been sitting out on my craft desk for quite a while.

Cardstock:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Kraft), Papertrey Ink (Pure Poppy)
Stamps:  Lil' Inker Designs (Darling Diamonds)
Ink:  WPlus9 Design Studio (White), Stampin' Up! (Real Red)
Tools:  Lil' Inker Designs (Circles & Diamonds Stitched Pattern die), My Favorite Things (Insert It--3 x 4 Insert die)
Other:  The Twinery (baker's twine)

Thanks for sharing a bit of your day with me.  Big hugs, friends.

So glad you are safe and sound. It was a very sad week indeed.

Your card is so cute. Crafting is my release from the real world too.

It was a horrific week Christina and it is only natural that you would feel that way. It affected us even up here in Canada, watching the news and hoping for closure. So glad it is over. Your card is just beautiful, now I need to decide whether to go Lil Inkers or WPlus9?

I'm so glad that you & your friends and family are all safe and sound. I know what you mean though. We were in Florida on vacation and everyone was so concerned and sad--such an awful week for the whole nation. It must have been even worse being close. Thankfully you had a chance to spend some crafty time. LOVE your card!!

I actually was thinking of you earlier this week, wondering how close you were to all that was going on. I agree that creating something does take one's mind off the world's problems....and you've created a beauty with this. I love your fresh color palette as well as that cool embossing and matching stamps!

big hugs back to you, Christina. What a therapeutic way to get through some of these emotions. We have even felt it all the way up here in BC. Our huge Sun Run marathon in Vancouver took place last weekend and many were wearing Boston colours in support and memory. I'm so happy you are safe and pray for more peaceful moments during this healing time. ox

Your card is fabulous and you are so right. Even if I'm on the other side of the Atlantic ocean I horrified and so saddened by what happened. I was up late watching the news and couldn't think of much else those days. I did an au pair year in Lexington and met a guy and returned to stay with him for 6 months in Fenway/Kenmore so that area is extra close to my heart. So good to hear that you and your family are safe.

Christina So glad no one in your family was hurt, but I feel so sad for those that were. It's such a horrific act, and I agree it is enough to make everyone be in a fog. So sad for the families too. Your card is wonderful.

There is part of me that's still in shock about it all, in a way that can't be put into words. Hugs!
